Post-Modern Drunk: The Right Time to Swear
The Scene: STU has been in the hospital for close to 50 days by this point. At the moment our scene opens, he has been pressing the Nurse Call button for nearly half an hour, hoping to get some pain killers, because he is in pain. A NURSE has finally answered his call, and told him the pain killers are now on their way--apologizing for having been "busy" earlier. Stu welcomes this news, but asks why the nurses have taken so long.
STU: (Politely, but still Angrily) ...I mean, I hope it's not too much to ask that I not get left out here in pain all the time; I understand you're busy sometimes, but leaving me on my own for over half a fucking hour?
NURSE: (Archly) You didn't have to say the f-word.
STU: Ma'am, I've been in this hospital for two months and on this planet for 30 years, and if there's one thing I've learned, it's that I'm thus far the best judge as to when I should and shouldn't say 'fuck,' so trust me when I say that this is one of those moments.
NURSE: You still didn't have to say the f-word.
STU: Well, shit.
