elanamatic: Oprah 4 Prez!
Before I confess my deep dark concerns as to who will win the next U.S. election, let's discuss the fabled Oprah For President debate. I am no loyal Harpo audience member, but I have to say she makes good TV. She is also a female visible minority. A woman of influence. Well intentioned. Works hard. Breaks the molds. I really wish she would run, just to show them how to do it.
I discussed this recently with a wise friend (ok, my MIL, she's awesome) who is actually a major Oprah show fan and she pointed out the following: Vast amounts of power changes people. Also, anyone over 50 will have skeletons in their closet, and in this kind of public spectacle she is sure to quickly become a victim of her past.
So true. Especially if she is a wealthy powerful woman. Look at poor Marsha.
Bottom line, I have to concur with you yanks - Bush is the likely winner. This thought keeps me awake at night, hugging my duvet and fearing an ugly future. And I live North of the border.
