|
I just got a new PC and have the choice of using Windows 2000 or XP - which do you recommend? Are all the security issues about XP true?

I am in school now and trying to figure out what I should be learning to make the 'big money'. Some friends say straight up programming, others say database engineers are always needed. What are you thoughts?

I have a Mac, running OS 9.2.2 on a 400mHz G4. I also have ProTools, and I run all my sound thru the ProTools sound card. Recently, iTunes has stopped playing thru the card, but all other applications still seem to play thru with no problems. what could be the matter? I've tried everything from trashing the pref files to re-installing the Digi Control Panel. What's left to do?

Why does your submit button say "submit to matt"? Are you a) really called matt, and just another girl and suffering from sexual misidentification, or b) the type of person who cannot help but to "submit" to matt, not unlike myself?

Our company's website is hosted in Europe, and it's really slow to connect to. The tech people there say that it's not a distance thing, and it's most likely a problem on our end. I say it's because it's across the ocean. Or is it a combination of both?

i am obsessed with emptying my "temporary internet" folders...does this help/harm my computer?
|
If you are promised a job as a System Admin, but then find out that the job was given to some bonehead with poorly dyed green hair, are you within your rights to kick the CTO in the balls?

How do proxies work? I installed some programs on my machine here at work, and I think they are somehow 'skipping' the proxy. For instance, if the proxy is down and IE and mail aren't working, I can surf with Mozilla or use AIM. What is the point of a proxy if a turd like me just skips it - and how does that happen in the first place?

I think my computer needs more RAM - what do i need to look for?

Tamara, I have a web hosting client, let's just call them "happyrobot", who always seems to be finding some new crap for me to troubleshoot, configure, or modify for them. Do you know of any good sites where they could go to download some "shuttin' the hell up"?
|
I'm having trouble getting the ImageXpress, and more importantly, the CapturePRO components to function under Windows NT. The Error messages are too vague to help, and the logs don't show anything useful. Any ideas?

I work for a large company and have been told the tech staff routinely monitors our computer use--which causes me to pretend to work when I have no work to do. I feel very silly pointing and clicking at nothing. Is there a software program that could do this for me? I guess I should have asked this question at home--as it's been on my screen for several minutes now.
|
Why isn't anyone asking you a question today?
|
I have an intermittant problem with my internet connection. How come it always works when the technicians are looking at it, and breaks as soon as they're gone?
|
I work primarily in ASP, but people are telling me I really should start to learn ASP.NET I don't have a traditional programming background - do you think it will be too steep of a learning curve? Or is there another technology I should be learning?

Our IT Department was looking to hire a 'Helper Monkey' to asist some of the employees by carrying around supplies and climbing up under desks to plug and unplug cables. Do you have any recommendations for Helper Monkeys? The company is now running Windows 2000 and Outlook (Exchange Server I assume), so we will need one with appropriate skills.

Dear Tamara, I need some help with email etiquette. First of all, is there something wrong with using capital letters? I've always used them. But I've noticed, names, especially, do look neat written in all lower case. I'd like to do that too, but something in me rebels against the feeling of "conforming" Also, I fear coming in late on the lower caps will make me seem like a cool email "wannabe". Also, sometimes I like to write in complete sentences. My emails seem heavy and clumsy compared to those of my friends- not to mention, they often go unanswered. I could work on developing a pithy style, but again with the conforming + when I try to do things other people do, it tends to fall flat- like saying "you rawk" or "you go girl!". suggestions?

I'm wearing new jeans today. One time when I did this, someone called me Mr. Clean Jeans. Truth be told, I prefer jeans that are clean but appear dirty or "worn-in". What invariably happens is a hole develops, prompting me to go buy more, new-style jeans. The latest hole developed in the crotchal area. Here is my question: Do you know any good ways one could age a pair of new jeans to look older and comfy and worn-in? To make this question more relevant, do you know any ways that a computer could perform this operation?
|
I am buying a new keyboard for work - do you like the supposedly ergonomic “broken” keyboards (where the keyboard is kind of broken in half) or the regular old kind? Any advantages to either? How about wireless ones – are they worth the trouble?
