(This piece is dedicated to my Orange Lighter which passed of natural causes at a ripe old age of Appx. 6
mos. You saw some good times my friend. I kept close watch over you . . . and you, me.)
Requiem
I give to you this lighter, O Lord, to help you light up the heavens, as your mercy shines upon us. May this lighter sit at your hand as I am made in your image and this lighter sat often in my right. This lighter, O Lord, I offer unto you.
Kyrie
Kyrie eleison. Christe eleison. Kyrie eleison.
Sequentia (solo for Mezzo Soprano)
When man is judged, O Lord, You will be held aloft on earth as you are in Heaven
And all who come to pass, smokers and non-smokers alike, shall witness the fury of your Orange Lighter.
Your judgment will be swift as a flick of the wrist ignites your Orange sword
Fill our lungs with joyus smoke Release us from debilitating cough Our withdrawal is our pennance
Spare us sinners For your light shines bright and alas, we have forgotten our sunglasses.
Offertorium (solo for Baritone)
Take, O Lord, this lighter Which to you we give of freely Take from us these gifts of bread and wine, of which, frankly, we've consumed to much lately. But please, O Lord, do not take away our right to smoke in bars and restaurants.
Sanctus
Sanctus, Sanctus, Sanctus, Dominus Deus Sabaoth! Pleni sunt coeli et terra gloria tua. Osanna in excelsis.
Communion
Though this light grew faint to my eyes, O Lord, you are God and can see everything. And although it's always take take take with you, Lord please grant me the strength, and grant me the sight. O Lord please grant me the wisdom to choose a new lighter.
