i have the most embarrassing story for you. since my current job is up in the air i have been job-hunting. i applied for a job as a "news content editor" with a media group here in raleigh. i was a little nervous about applying because i've seen this same job avertised every few months so i figured they had a high turn-over rate or they have 100 news content editors. anyway, send off the old resume (on a side note - i love my resume. i love working on it. it's my favorite part of a job. i'll help you with yours if you want. that's how much i love resumes.) so, i get an email back from the company giving me a run down of the job. they used the word "shift" which creeped me out a little. they also used the word "shift" with the words "overnight" and "weekends". eek.
then comes the kicker - i would have to take a 150 question on-line test and edit two aticles. the articles didn't scare me at all. it was the questions i was worried about. you have two hours to finish and once you submit a page you can't go back to it.
so, i start this test - here comes the embarrassing part - and it turns out to be soooo hard. it's all history and current events questions that frankly, i just don't know off the top of my head. i looked many of them up but skipped some because i was afraid of running out of time for the articles (and i didn't know how long they'd be). it was all a mess. name the president of this country, name the ruler of that country. they listed 7 dates that you had to know. you had to name all the supreme court justices. then they gave you a list of 15 names you had to identify. cripes. so not only did they never call me back (it's been a week), the test only succeeded in making me feel like a dumbass. and un-employable. and i'm waiting for uncw to show up and revoke my diploma.
