I had this book when I was young; it was called Fortunately/Unfortunately. The cool thing about this book is that the main character had my name - Blaine. It was the type of book that came special from the printer that way; it would have been true of any kid who ordered the book; for example, Nate would be the hero of Nate's book, Lisa would be the hero of Lisa's book. You get it.
The story went like this:
A strange thing happened when Blaine got home from school. His house had been emptied of all its stuff and no one was around. Fortunately, there was a note. It was from his parents and it said "Dear Son, We moved," and that he should come meet them. Unfortunately, they had moved to California. That was too far to hitch a ride, so Blaine would have to fly. Fortunately, the airlines had a special and Blaine got a cheap flight to California. Unfortunately, the plane blew up mid-air and Blaine was left hurtling towards the ground. Fortunately, he had a parachute. Unfortunately, the parachute wouldn't open. Blaine's plummet continued unabated. Fortunately, on the ground beneath him was a nice, soft haystack. Blaine wouldn't die after all! Unfortunately, a pitchfork was standing in that haystack, points upward...
And so on. I should try this out more in my writing.
