Sometimes I hate not living in North Carolina and today is one of those times. Why? Because the ACC basketball tournament started today and I am at work. You see, when I was a youngster, the start of the ACC tournament was an unofficial holiday. Maybe you went to school, maybe you didn't. But even if you did go to school, you could rest assured that your teacher would roll in a TV from the A/V room or someone would have a radio and all of us kids would watch or listen to basketball from noon until our schoolbus took us home.
Now, I'm grown and live kind of far from home. I didn't even realize the tournament was today until a few minutes ago. I don't know what the pairings are or who most of the players are. I just haven't followed basketball very closely this year (probably a sign of becoming happy and well-adjusted - ah, never mind). I do know that Duke is the seventh seed (yip!). I do know that UNC is the first seed (another yip!). Other than that, life just rolls on.
And now, in my workaday existence, I get my holidays like everyone else. But I miss my Tournament Day. The beginning of spring just isn't the same without it.
