Yesterday was a bad day. I had a sore toe and a lightbulb burned out in my bedroom. All in the same day. How much bad luck can one person have, right?
The toe is my left -foot big toe and it affects my gait so as to cause my left ankle to hurt as well. I'm fairly convinced that if I keep walking on it, that the pain will spread through my hips and into my back, leaving me a cripple. Right now the pain isn't so bad, but these things start out slowly. They always do.
The lightbulb was very problematic because I suffer from vertigo and have a hard time replacing lightbulbs. For one thing, the fixture was tricky. It is heavy glass and hangs via three small chains. So, as you disconnect one chain, you have to be particularly careful to hold up the fixture with your other hand - all while standing on the bed with nothing solid to hold onto!
While I was figuring out how to remove the fixture (which is shaped like an inverted bowl), I noticed that it was covered in a pretty fair amount of dust and bug ash. This made removing it all the more difficult, as it was disgusting to the touch. Meanwhile, my vertigo is raging and I'm literally seeing a Mesmer's wheel spinning, spinning, spinning, hypnotizing my poor inner-ear, balance-core, wobbling my knees, and sabotaging my brave effort.
Needless to say, I prevailed. The fixture was removed and washed out with soapy water. The bulb was replaced. The fixture was also replaced, despite more panic and spinning. My toe still hurts.
