sunshine jen: Jury Jury
This is an honest record of my jury duty in the great city of Los Angeles.
Sometime in August, I received a notice for jury duty beginning September 6th (aka the Tuesday after Labor Day). Following the instructions on the summons, I called the Los Angeles Surperior Court voice computer system to register.
Still true to the instructions on my summons, on Saturday of Labor Day weekend, I called the Los Angeles Jury Line and punched in my jury ID number. I was told by the friendly computer voice to call back between the hours of 6 p.m. and 12 p.m. on Tuesday, September 6, 2005.
So I called back in the evening on Tuesday, September 6, 2005. I was then told by the friendly computer voice to call back between the hours of 6 p.m. and 12 p.m. on Wednesday, September 7, 2005.
So I called back in the evening on Wednesday, September 7, 2005. I was then told by the friendly computer voice to call back between the hours of 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 8, 2005.
So I called back at 12:32 p.m. on Thursday, September 8, 2005. I was then told by the friendly computer voice that my jury service had been completed and to mail back my summons in the envelope provided.
On Thursday, September 8, 2005 at 2:59 p.m., I dropped my jury summons in a mail slot for the United States Postal Service. A wave of pride and fulfillment swept through me as I realized that I had done my little bit for democracy.
