Nutshell Kingdom: Creases (dual credits to Janice Kopec, my pal)
2004

This is the day I wish I had.
Horoscopes fulfilled.
My favorite colors meet for sunset.

But this day
An evening sky green with
Wanting, a stilled ocean, and
Crossed stars sinking to my shoulders
With a sigh.

Your freckled shoulder shines with direction
Like a star chart unfolded
Under my clumsy hand, ruffled by
Light winds, torn by my correction.

With pillows crested under our chins
We watched the window
Full of dawn and smiled
For cotton, for coffee and feet
Touching in the night left
In the seam of our bed.
