poop beetle: tv
7.2002
I watch too much television and so does my son.
The other day we're talking about strangers and he says, "I would never, never, never talk to someone who's got on black and white stripes".
I'm working up to disconnecting the cable. I didn't actually mean to have cable. RCN got me with their bundled package of cable internet, TV and phone.
If I get rid of the cable, the internet and the phone prices jump and I will save about $10.00. You can't find someone to keep your kids away from the hot stove, or let you take a shower, or take just one little minute to shoot your heroin, for $10.00.
I know people who claim they don't let their children watch TV. But what they don't fess up to is the bookcase full of Barney videos or the Irish nanny.
And I read, and I know what people say and would before I had kids, said the same thing with righteousness and contempt -"That's what's wrong with our country. It's the TV. It's the parents- they should be nurturing their children with Beethoven and Phonics."
A while back, my mother was in town, helping me with my taxes.
And we wonder together, what DID people do, before there was television?
Sent them out to play in safe friendly neighborhoods? Beat them severally?
Probably you'd just have to beat the first two or three. Then the older ones- between shifts in the fields and the textile mills-could beat the younger ones for you.
