poop beetle: hey there
10.2002
A few weeks ago I got to spend some time with an old friend of mine and ended up meeting and spending time with other friends of hers, seeing her house, etc.
It was socializing. That's what it was. Nothing too crazy happened, except this: My friend's boyfriend compliments his friend on his new boots. He says something like "those are nice. What are they, Doc Martins?"
And the guy says "no- they're J. Crew."
Everybody looks at the boots and there's a little conversation lull. And then the guy says- "They're not for kicking ass, they're for kissing ass."
Everyone laughs- appropriately. It was a quick, well delivered line - very quippy.
Except for me. I laugh. And then I laugh some more. Tears come to my eyes. These people move on, talking about other things- but this comment keeps popping into my mind making me choke and gurgle.
Later I repeat the line to a couple of family members- nobody laughs. I try pausing in different places- everybody I repeat it to says "mmm hmm" and then looks at me expectantly for the "really funny" part.
I can't think of anything definitive to say about this experience. But, I've missed posting here, and this is what I've come up with for my ice breaker. Happy Wednesday.
