poop beetle: good health
12.2002
Good News:
The Dentist says the discoloration on my gums is NOT cancer! I noticed it about 3 years ago and felt sure it was something awful, but apparantly I've had it my whole life. It's extra pigment and common amoung people of either Mediteranean or Native American descent.
This is the family dentist and has seen or currently sees about 10 of us.
Apparantly I'd seen him too, about 12 years ago. I hadn't remembered though, untill he looked in my mouth at my one filing and said "that looks like my work".
I said "duh, ahah uhhh!"
He told me "one of your sisters has about 60% more melanin than you do. Perfectly normal. I'm sorry you worried about it for so long.
He was so kind, I considered sending him a thank you note. Then I considered going to the Methodist church down the road. I felt so thankful and greatful and good about the world and the people in it, I was right on verge of religion.
But that was before exams, and a whole lot of other hassle. I remember the feeling though, maybe after this next semester.
So, I also went in for a physical, again with the family doctor, or the family group of doctors. I got one who looked about 16 years old. Again, very very nice person/people. Nurses, receptionists- nice. nice. nice. My step dad reminded me, "this is the South, what'd you expect?"
When Doogie Howser did that "palpatating" thing, he allowed me to keep the gown on and also he averted his eyes.
This doctor's office has you go in for blood work, before the physical.
How brilliant is that? I worked 4 years for a big deal Boston hospital, and no one ever came up with such a good idea. See- blood work BEFORE appointment, so you can go over results during the appointment, instead of making yet another appointment after the first to go over said results.
So, more good news:
I have a much lower than average risk for heart disease.
I have much higher than average amount of good cholesteral
And much lower than average amount of the bad.
I am unbelievably healthy. I could go into all the reasons that shouldn't be and maybe someday I will. Maybe someday I will get down to that Methodist church, too.
To the universe I say, "an unexpected break . . . a gift, the alternative would not be fun. Thanks!"
