My friend Erick Gordon made this collage in the mid-90s. He created it, then mailed it to me after I sent him an early version of this poem, among a sheaf of others. Kind of a collaboration by post.
Years later, when I was at Columbia, he made a series of paintings based on something I wrote, that were part of a group show in a gallery uptown.
This particular collage has been displayed on the walls of my various apartments for over ten years. This weekend I photographed it for the first time.
