poop beetle: a question 9.2003 a question I have a question. If anyone knows, please tell me. Did governments ever speak so casually about killing world leaders, before?
I'm asking this because; perhaps I missed something- a transition, in the way governments who consider them selves civilized do things.
I was surprised over Bush's comfort in speaking so freely about killing Saddam.
I know governments have wanted other government leaders dead, but I thought we used to call those "plots"?
They were secret and embarrassing. No one wanted other countries to know they would stoop to such a level. Countries seemed to think their own citizens would not like this, too.
There was a fear this would open up a whole can of worms- everyone would have to spend a lot more time and energy keeping their own leaders alive.
Besides, "Assassinations" were only for wild, rangy third world messes.
I think that's the way it used to work.
Seriously, does anyone know of any other examples of a president or prime minister announcing they were going to kill someone- in that Saddam/Arafat kind of way?
