Musings on High School Reunions
So, that was fine. I guess you live with the expected notion that you will go to your high school reunion and something big will happen.
You will see that one person who you totally forgot about and re-connect and be friends forever.
"OMIGOD!!! IT'S YOU!!"

Or you, the geeky, zit-faced nerd, has totally blossomed as a person and the 'cool' kids are all tubby and slobby.
Or you go and the mean girls are still mean and make you cry.
Or you go and end up beating up some guy who was a jerk to you in high school.
Or you go and you hook up with someone.
Or..

Missing
What was missing, for me, was some sort of electricity. Spark. That kind of stuff. I am not sure what I was looking to get out of it.
My pal Serge said I just wanted to show off my foxy wife. Maybe.

Facebook
Actually, I think Facebook stole some of the energy from the reunion. Ever since the reunion planning started, everyone has been re-connecting on Facebook. And honestly, that has been where all the energy and spark has been.

Speaking of Mean Girls
There was this one girl. She was like 9 feet tall and a basketball player. I didn't know her, but apparently there was something about me that made her want to always slam me into the lockers. She did. There wasn't much I could do about that.
She was not at the reunion.

Drama
What is up with the drama at a high school reunion?
There were little pockets of drama. I don't why. I think some of these people still see each other, so I guess it is unfair of me to be snarky about drama. Or maybe they were/are crazy and/or drunk.
But, yea. Drama. Whats up with that?

How'd everyone age
Pretty good. There were only a few people who kind of turned out wonky. Otherwise, kudos to healthy living.

George
My pal George, who passed away a few years ago, was honored (as were about 4 other people who passed away from our class). His passing created a bit of a void there for me. So many people who I know he would have freaked out to see again were there.
I kept thinking, "I've got to tell George that I saw ____!"
Alas.

The Best Part
The evening ended on a bit of a low note. Kind of.
Some girl was crying over some guy becuase he said or did something.
We were at the bar around the corner with the drama surrounding us and found ourselves at a big table with 4-5 other couples. They were all sitting there not saying much - like we were all strangers at a communal table.

It was annoying. Partly because no one was talking and partly because there was stupid drunken/crazy drama happening around us. Everyone was slipping into this annoying immature high school thing and it was satisfying to turn to my lovely wife and say, "Hey, let's leave - this is stupid" and get up and walk out the door.
Without saying goodbye.
Awesome.
