Teen News: The 'Fictition' of Duct Tape
Sorry I can't come up with anything more original to write about than the Academy Awards, but I just have a few things to say (and they aren't very original either).
It was a subtle detail, but one key bit that completely ruined Michael Moore's speech was the fact that he kind of smiled when he started his "Shame on you Bush!" bit. The crowd had already started booing, and that little smirky smile looked like he thought he could salvage the crowd's perception of him by suggesting that it was all a wacky joke. "C'mon you guys, it's ME, nutty, fat, rolled-out-of-bed-lookling, overly subjective Michael Moore! I'm your friend! Don't take this so seriously! I'm trying to be funny, NOW that I see this isn't working out so well!". It's too bad because, up until he opened his trap, the crowd seemed to be 'all about' him.
What's more, I bet all those other doc film nominess that he dragged up there with him were thinking, "Oh crap, he's taking us down with him!". Poor gang.
Steve Martin's comment afterward was priceless. "Michael Moore just had the teamsters put him in the trunk of his limo", or something to that effect.
Barbra Streisand's reaction to Eminem winning Best Original Song song was nutty. She seemed to be saying, "Oh my, all these years of quality music in films and it's come to THIS". Poor Barbra.
Nicole Kidman must be punching herself in the gut right now. "BAD speech! (punch!) BAD, rambling speech! (punch punch!) Shoulda just walked away as soon as I started crying! (punch own face!) Russell Crowe didn't warn me NOT to sound like a 14-year old! (twist ankle and fall on it!)
It was fun watching Halle Berry wipe her mouth off after Adrian Brody's impassioned kiss. At first I thought she was a bit pissed at him, but I think all was well after his slightly more subtle speech (and amazingly successful request for the orchestra to "knock it off" when his speech started running long) .
Okay, I'm sorry. I'll find something else more interesting to write about next time. I'm starting to feel like Joan Rivers or something.
