Pony: The phantom weight
1.16.2008
When I woke up to go to work today, my first day back after a year of maternity leave, I was stunned. I didn't even get to say goodbye to Gabriel before I left, as he was sleeping.
As soon as I got to work, I saw my co-worker who returned last month from Mat leave and burst into tears. "I am going to go to the bathroom, come back, and try this again." Washed my face, blew my nose, got a grip. Second entrance was a bit better.
Eventually I kept the weepiness at bay long enough to greet the old people (I had forgotten how much I adored them) and meet the new ones and delete about three thousand emails.
I don't know what to say: It was not as hard as I had anticipated. I was thrilled to go to the bathroom on my own. I missed G. like mad and all day I felt a phantom weight on my hip.
When I got home, G. was so tired, he barely looked at me. I gave him a bath and put him to bed and he crashed hard, which is what I am about to do.
Kiff is on dad duty for the next couple of weeks, by the way, and he is totally showing me up! First, the house is immacuate. Secondly, he MOVED FURNITURE with the baby in his arms. He rescued a kids' size chest of drawers for G. and totally restored it and gave it a bright paint job.
