Walk Five Boro
Mrs. Robot and I have always intended to ride the five boro bike ride thing (we also always intend to run the NYC Marathon). It seems like every spring we are doing something fun and wonder why all the traffic is wonky and then realize that the darn bike ride is taking place right then and there.
"Drat! We meant to do that!"

For our three non-NYC readers, the Five Borough ride is a traffic-free 42-mile ride around all the five boroughs of the Big Stink - of course, by all five, they mean literally four minutes in the Bronx and a lot of time in Brooklyn and a lot of walking in Manhattan. My pal Craig (who happens to be married to Lisa) and I rode it this past Sunday.

Observations in list form
 - We both have little cyclometers (aka "computers de la bicycles") and we realized that when we were walking our bikes that they didn't really count the distance very well. Our mileage never agreed.

- I totaled a tad over 52 miles, including the travel time to and from the ride.

- There were 32,000 people in this year's ride. This caused lots of bicycle traffic jams which in turn caused lots of walking.

- If I ever did the ride again (I probably won't) I would totally skip the ride through Central Park as that was a pointless endeavour unless you like walking your bike a lot.

- I don't mind large groups of cyclists, but I am petrified of large groups of people swerving and making sudden lane changes and not paying attention while on bikes.

- Hills are the worst in a large group with people who never ride their bikes.

- I am an idiot who didn't wear sunscreen. I don't know why I didn't.

- We were more tired just from the sun and the walking, I think. The actual biking was generally pretty slow.

- The most fun was on the way to the start. Sunday mornings in Manhattan are a lovely time to ride. The end of it was pretty fun as well when we zoomed around lower Manhattan dodging buses and tourists.

- We also had great fun in Dumbo. The group of riders was slowing down, so we took a side street. It was invigorating to be out of the crowd and to actually be able to go.

- The Verrazano bridge was the best.

- Speaking of tourists, Harlem on Sunday mornings gets a lot of tourists

Burned
Holy crap I am sunburned. I am an idiot.

Like
If real life was Facebooks (or FaceSpace) I'd 'like' the following:
- Girl in high-heeled shoes and little retro dress
- The dad and his young daughter on a tandem that left us in the dust
- Craig for bringing extra Goo (not that I liked it, but it works)
- A number of handsome bikes that made me feel funny down there
