Teen News: Fire, Walk Around With Me
One of my greatest fears was semi-kinda realized two nights ago.
I'm sure you have all run this scenario in their heads at one point: You're on your way home, and as you round the corner and your house/apartment comes into view you notice lots of firetrucks, and as you get closer you notice your place is charred to cinders.
OR
The very thought of a fire starting in a unit/building that's nearby or adjacent to yours, and the fire dept. is unable to prevent it from spreading to your place.
Reba and I used to live three buldings down the block, and a unit in that building caught fire the other night. The 'fire unit' (new term) was a complete loss, and the one below it appears to have suffered a big ol' mess of water damage, which by the way, quickly becomes ice damage in our current 10 degree weather. The unit (I said 'unit') we used to live in came out fine. Though it's on the same floor, it's in the diagonally opposite corner, but I'm betting it stinks of smoke.
Still, that woulda been scary as all hell to be living there and know that your building is currently ON FIRE.
Then last night I saw another apartment building going up in flames, big time. They closed off a whole block it was so bad. Now don't get me wrong, there is no GOOD time for one's apartment to burn to the ground, but man, for it to happen when it's this cold out just adds temperate insult to injury. I really feel for these poo folks. (I typed 'poo' when I meant 'poor'!)
Funny thing is that this now ex-building is down the street from where we're getting ready to move this weekend!
