grams pound cake
Actually, to be honest, grandma titled this recipe "Good Cake" (remember that poll question last week?).
As a kid, I called it "Sunshine Cake" because it is yellow. Duh.
Grams, at the age of 89, still makes this cake for me everytime I visit. The last time, the cake didn't turn out the way she liked and she told me that it was horrible. It wasn't.
It was great - I took half of it with me.
Oh, and our cat really likes this cake, too. My current favorite method of serving this is with a scoop of raspberry sorbet - tasty. It's like a crazy strawberry short cake.
Now, you will need a bunt cake pan for this, or as my grams calls it, "a tube pan". I mentioned that because I wanted to write the word "bunt".
It reminds me of Mitch McGirt.
Here it is:
"Good Cake"
2 sticks of butter (margarine is fine too - grams uses that)
1/2 cup Crisco (maybe 1/4 cup is better)
3 cups sugar
5 eggs
3 cups flour (all purpose)
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon lemon flavor (huh? Lemon extract?)
pinch of mace
------------------------------------------
Cream sugar, Crisco, and butter. Add eggs one at a time and beat well.
Sift flour 3 times with baking powder.
Add alternately flour and milk - add lemon flavor and mace
Put wax paper on bottom of tube pan and grease pan.
Pour into a tube pan and cook at 325 for 1 hour and 30 minutes.
serve with sorbet and leave plate for cat to lick when done.
