you don't have to go to university

one time i was on a streetcar--on Queen in Toronto and i was still pretty young-like 17- at the time and i was going through the whole -should I go to school after high school-thing. so anyway, this bum gets on looks right at me and says "you don't have to go to university, you know."
i assumed he meant University Avenue, which was the next stop but it helped me feel better all the same.
I didn't end up going to university. the stop or the school.
