Subway musical

This was a 'real life musical' experience. When I got in the subway station I made a mental note to take the train in the right direction (south). Instead, I mysteriously found myself heading north on the express line from 57th Street to 125th Street and was sitting there on the train feeling baffled and angry at myself for making such a dumb mistake.
There were two plaster dust covered construction workers sitting opposite one another near me at one end of the car. The weather outside was really hot and one of them started singing 'Under The Boardwalk' quietly, almost to himself. Gradually, the other one joined in. Then a black homeless guy who was walking through the car joined in harmonizing with them in a beautiful baritone. The 2-year old with her mom opposite me started dancing on the seat, the mom started singing. I started singing too and before you knew it the whole car (about ten people of all different walks of life) were all singing together louder and louder. Everyone was smiling.
Then the train pulled into the 125th Street station and everyone went their separate ways. I got on the train in the opposite direction back to the Port Authority. It was one of the most surreal, beautiful and spiritual moments of my life! Only in NY... I felt like I was in a music video or a TV commercial promoting how wonderful it is to take the NYC subway system. It was so perfectly choreographed. I'll never forget it.
